EV Charging is Fast and Affordable

Fast charging your EV is very simple and now quite affordable with EVgo. You can quickly connect your EV to a charger in seconds, charge to 80% or more in about 30 minutes, while you shop, eat, read, or relax. With EVgo’s convenient charging options, it is now as cheap or cheaper than gas to charge with EVgo. Where you once had to pay a per session fee plus a per minute fee, we’ve shifted to low membership fee structures or low pay as you go fees making the cost of owning an EV even better. EVgo fast chargers are compatible with all fast charge capable EV models currently on the market, including Tesla Models S/3/X/Y with a CHAdeMO adapter.

EV Charging Levels

There are different levels to charge your vehicle Level 1, Level 2, Level 3 DC Fast Charging and Tesla Supercharging, which only charges a Tesla vehicle. All electric cars can charge on Level 1 and Level 2 options. However, some vehicles cannot charge at a Level 3 charger. Knowing your vehicle’s capabilities is therefore very important.

Level 1/Home Charging: Level 1 charging is simply plugging into a standard wall outlet. It uses a 120-volt charge. This is the slowest form of charging. It will typically charge your car at a rate of 2-5 miles per hour. This is most convenient for home charging as filling up your battery will take many hours.

Level 2 Charging: The most common and efficient charging option for your residence or workplace. Level 2 charging delivers a charge of either 220 or 240 volts with a rate of up to 25 miles per hour. Level 2 chargers can be found at retail, residential, work, EVgo stations or you can have one installed in your home. The Level 2 can deliver a full charge throughout the course of the workday or full night’s sleep. However, if you don’t have time you can receive a minimal re-charge within an hour.

DC Fast/Level 3 Fast Charging: DC Fast charging is the most convenient way to charge for those electric vehicles with fast charging capability. If you would like to fast charge your EV up to 80% capacity in under 30 minutes, Level 3 Public DC Fast Charging is for you. It takes seconds to plug in, then allows you to shop, eat or relax for 30-60 minutes and return to your EV with nearly a full charge. Some of the new high-powered chargers and newer EV models can charge 90-120 miles in 20-30 minutes*. Public level 3 DC Fast Charging is convenient, easy and fast!

Sure, you can spend hours charging your EV at home or at work, but the ability to charge your EV quickly, whenever and wherever you want is a convenience we all want at our disposal.

Charge Your Car in Minutes, Not Hours

Level 1 Charging

Up to 2 miles, 30 minutes

Level 2 Charging

Up to 10 miles, 30 minutes

DC Fast Charging

90 to 120 miles, 20-30 minutes

*The EV controls the speed of the charging and once charging begins and the battery warms up, EVs typically draw the maximum flow of kilowatts available from the charger in which the EV’s battery is designed to handle. The charger will hold this rate for as long as possible, though it may drop to a more moderate speed if the vehicle tells the charger to slow down so as not to compromise battery life. Once an EV’s battery reaches a certain level of capacity, usually 80%, charging slows significantly.

How to Stop a Charge and Disconnect

It is very simple to stop the charge and disconnect from our chargers. You can stop the DC Fast charge via the screen on the charger by hitting the stop button. In addition, the DC Fast charger will automatically stop after a 30-60 minute session has been reached or your car is at full battery capacity. Our Level 2 chargers will stop if you remove the connector from your car or your battery has reached full capacity.

If you are having trouble stopping a charge or disconnecting from the charger and need help call our customer support team at (877) 494-3833.

Emergency Stop Button

On most of our DC Fast chargers there is a red emergency stop button. We do not recommend pushing this to stop the charge unless there is an emergency.

Please note, if you do use the Emergency Stop button, be sure to follow the instructions on the charger screen to reset. Failing to reset may render the charger useless for the next driver until reset is complete.

If you have just arrived at the station and there is a message on the charger screen that refers to the Emergency Stop button being pressed, follow the steps presented on the charger screen to reset.

Resetting the emergency stop is easy, simply twist clockwise (to the right) until the button pops out.

At EVgo, we believe everyone should have the opportunity to charge. We are sharing some of our best practices to get moving.

To plug into your EVgo fast charger and start charging follow this EV etiquette guide

  1. Park on the side of the correct connector for your vehicle.
  2. Make sure your vehicle is less than 50% at charge level.
  3. Our Fast Chargers are equipped for 45-60 minute sessions.
  4. Connect the CHAdeMO or Combo (CCS) connector. Take the connector from the machine, easily plug in to your vehicle.
  5. If using the app you can easily swipe to the right to start the charge or use your Fast Charge card affiliated with your plan at the machine to start the charge.
  6. Use the EVgo charger for the 45-60 minute session then leave the space, so that other vehicles may charge.
  7. Note that if you do not need to charge that long, you should leave earlier to accommodate other EV drivers. Your vehicle will charge at a lower kWh if it is above 50%. It will not use the kWh fast charging capability, but will charge at a Level 2.
  8. Do not use the RED stop button unless you need an emergency stop.
  9. Should you use the RED stop button, please reset, by pulling the button out and twisting.
  10. Once you are done charging, replace the connector and leave the space for the next EV driver.
  11. If you need customer service assistance contact our customer support team at support@evgo.com or call (877) 494-3833.

The most common connector is the Level 2 connector also known as the J1772. This connector works with all cars.

DC Fast connectors are CHAdeMO, SAE Combo or CCS and the Tesla connector. Not all DC Fast charging stations contain each connector. Before visiting a site, you may want to check to make sure your connector is at that station.

The CHAdeMO connector works with most Asian made vehicles.

  • Kia Soul
  • Nissan LEAF
  • Mitsubishi

The SAE Combo (CCS) connector works with most European and American made vehicles.

  • BMWi3
  • Chevy Bolt and Spark
  • Ford Focus Electric
  • Volkswagen E-Golf
