LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP, N.J. - July 7, 2015 - Simon, a global leader in retail real estate, and NRG EVgo, a subsidiary of NRG Energy, Inc., announced today the installation of a new electric car fast-charging Freedom Station® site at Quaker Bridge Mall. The new charging stations provide shoppers with the ability to recharge their vehicles in 30 minutes or less. In an opening ceremony held this morning, NRG CEO David Crane commissioned the station with a charge to his personal Electric Vehicle (EV). Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman and New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Bob Martin also celebrated the milestone for the community.

“Simon is committed to providing sustainable amenities for our customers and the opening of an EV charging station in a market where there is a lot of interest in electric vehicles is a great example of that,” said Mona Benisi, Senior Director of Sustainability for Simon. “The locations of our shopping centers across the United States mean that Simon is ideally positioned to contribute to the development of a national infrastructure for electric vehicle charging stations, and also advances the company’s sustainability efforts.”

Freedom Station® sites are equipped with DC Fast Chargers, which can deliver 40 miles of range in as little as 15 minutes, allowing electric vehicle (EV) drivers to quickly charge their vehicles while enjoying the Quaker Bridge Mall. The station also has a Level 2 charger that can charge all EVs.

“EVgo is the largest developer of public DC Fast Charging for electric vehicles in the nation and we are using this experience to partner with Simon in New Jersey to begin serving customers at Quaker Bridge Mall,” said Brendan Jones, EVgo’s regional Vice President for the East. “This is the beginning of a robust network in New Jersey which will soon extend to New York City and Philadelphia, featuring the fastest public charging available. EVgo gives drivers new found confidence and flexibility in how and when they charge their EVs.”

The Quaker Bridge Mall EV charging stations will occupy two parking spots located on the Grover’s Mill side of the property, near the lower level mall entrance between Sears and Lord & Taylor.

“The opening of an EV charging station at our property is another way we are able to enhance the customer shopping experience and better meet our customers’ needs,” said Lynda Benedetto, Mall Manager of Quaker Bridge. “It’s important to address ongoing trends within the market and this added convenience will allow us to do just that.”

Simon is a long-time industry leader in incorporating energy management and sustainability practices into its operations with more than 148 EV charging stations at 68 properties in 18 states with more scheduled to come on line in late 2015. EVgo is the clear leader in EV DC Fast Charging with nearly 400 Freedom Stations in 26 cities with more coming online each month.
