LOS ANGELES - July 7, 2015 – NRG EVgo is partnering with Butte and Peralta Colleges to bring electric vehicle (EV) charging to their campuses. EVgo is operating chargers on Butte College’s campus at Chico, and at Peralta Community College District’s Laney College, Merritt College and the District office in Oakland.
As part of EVgo’s Ready for Electric Vehicle (REV) California Community College Initiative, the colleges received a generous subsidy for infrastructure installation. Through convenient and affordable EVgo EV charging stations, these colleges are leading the movement to a “net zero” campus and can offer reliable EV charging for a minimal cost. Faculty and staff will now have enhanced ability to charge their EVs at work and will receive access to NRG EVgo’s extensive on-the-go Fast Charge Network, including more than 200 fast chargers currently installed across California
“We are excited bringing clean commuting to Butte College and the Peralta Community College District with bringing EV charging for faculty and staff,” said Terry O’Day, Vice President of NRG EVgo in California. “We hope that many more colleges and universities will follow their lead and encourage their commuters to make the switch to clean operating electric vehicles.”
As one of the Environmental Protection Agency’s Top 30 On-site Generation of Green Power Users, bringing convenient and affordable EVgo EV charging stations to campus is the latest step in supporting cleaner energy alternatives for Butte College.
The system is already paying off for users. One driver says about the Fast Charge Station at Peralta Community College, “Worked great!” . “Truly a life-saver when I was almost empty at [Oakland airport] with all the chargers already being used. Thanks so much Peralta College!” added the driver in a post on the website www.plugshare.com.
Under the Ready for Electric Vehicle (REV) California Community College Initiative, EVgo provides qualified colleges with turn-key EV charging solutions, including installation planning and construction, charger maintenance and driver management and support 24 hours a day.
