Electric Vehicle Charging Safety
EVgo is committed to providing a safe and reliable charging experience for all customers. To protect you, other drivers, and our network, we require that all vehicles charged on the EVgo network comply with applicable safety standards.
Vehicle Recalls
Recalled vehicles may have known safety defects that can pose serious risks during the charging process, including fire, electrical failure, or other hazards. To protect yourself and others, please ensure your vehicle has no outstanding recalls before using the EVgo network.
If your vehicle is subject to a recall, you must have the recall remedied by your vehicle manufacturer at an authorized dealership or service center before resuming charging on our network. Charging a vehicle that is subject to an unremedied recall is a violation of EVgo's Terms of Service.
Active Vehicle Recalls
EVgo is currently aware of recalls on the following vehicles that may impact the car’s battery or charging (Last updated September 2026):
2023- 2025 Volkswagen ID.4
2022-2025 Mercedes EQB
2020-2021 Jaguar I-PACE
2019-2020 Nissan LEAF
You can check whether your vehicle has an open recall at any time using your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and visiting the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) at: www.nhtsa.gov/recalls. You can also contact your car manufacturer for up-to-date information on your specific vehicle.
Your VIN is typically located:
On the driver's side dashboard (visible through the windshield)
On the driver's side door jamb sticker
On your vehicle registration or insurance documents
If you have a safety concern about a vehicle, a charging station, or a charging session, please contact EVgo immediately at support@evgo.com.
Charging Adapters
For your safety, EVgo only permits the use of charging adapters that are UL2252 certified.
EVgo prohibits the use of all other adapters, including break-away adapters and DC extension cords, across its network. As a reminder, using unauthorized equipment on EVgo charging stations violates our Terms of Service.
How do I know if my charging adapter is UL2252 certified? Look for the UL2252 mark printed directly on your adapter or its packaging — it's usually near the model number or other safety certifications. You can also check the manufacturer's product listing or spec sheet online, or reach out to the manufacturer to confirm.
