Visitors to the recently opened EVgo fast charging station in Oakland Lafayette Square Park can enjoy the work of local community artists while they fast charge their EVs.

The EVgo station at Lafayette Square Park is in the heart of the vibrant Old Oakland neighborhood, and the park also features a playground that neighborhood families enjoy.

To integrate the charging experience into the community and to make it more inviting for local residents, EVgo collaborated with the Old Oakland Neighbors Association to commission local artists to decorate the charging equipment. Together, we were excited to select the artists from Dragon School. Based in Oakland, Dragon School is a non-profit organization that provides youth and the general public a unique place to experiment, collaborate, and develop community ownership via artistic avenues. Dragon School’s method re-imagines the neighborhood as a shared culture, through art.

The station’s four 50kW EVgo fast chargers, named Lupe, Iggy, Pismo, and Orly, each feature unique, abstract designs in vibrant colors perfect for attracting attention to the park – and to fast charging. We think you’ll agree that the Dragon School did a wonderful job with the chargers!

EVgo extends an extra-special thank you to the Old Oakland Neighbors Association, Sage Loring of the Dragon School, and the City of Oakland for making this project possible.

We invite EV drivers in Oakland and throughout the greater Bay Area to stop by for their next fast charge and experience this engaging community project.
