EVgo #1 In Fast Charging Stations, According to U.S. Department of Energy

October 22nd Report Puts EVgo On Top of Fast Charging Industry

Los Angeles, CA (October 25, 2018) – A report issued this week by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) places EVgo, the nation’s largest public fast charging network, miles ahead of the competition with the largest number of DC fast charging stations in the United States.

The report, which outlined the number and ownership of both DC fast charging and the slower charging Level 2 stations serving electric vehicles (EVs) in the U.S., highlighted that EVgo owns more fast charging stations than any other provider. According to the Department of Energy, as of August 14, 2018, EVgo owns and operates 31% of the nation’s 2,368 fast charging stations, with a share approximately the size of the second and third largest DC fast charging companies combined.

“EVgo built the nation’s largest fast charging network to enable mass adoption of electric vehicles for American drivers,” said Julie Blunden, EVgo’s Executive Vice President for Business Development. “Scaling well beyond EVgo’s more than 1000 DC fast chargers operating today in 34 states, we will add hundreds of new chargers within the next six months, investing private capital and leveraging public funds to enable the electrification of the transportation sector.”

EVgo is on track to maintain its lead in the EV fast charging market. With more than 530,000 fast-charge capable vehicles on the road in the U.S., EVgo is making a substantial investment in the expansion of the nation’s largest public fast charging infrastructure, adding hundreds of new chargers in 2019 to support public drivers as well as building the first dedicated fast charging network for rideshare drivers. In August, 2018, EVgo was awarded $14 million by the Commonwealth of Virginia to develop, own, and operate a statewide public EV charging network as the first recipient of funds from the Environmental Mitigation Trust set up as part of Appendix D of the Volkswagen mitigation settlement.

In addition to ranking number one with the Department of Energy, EVgo tops customer satisfaction ratings with EV drivers, consistently earning the highest customer ratings on PlugShare. With an option to use either CCS or CHAdeMO connectors to charge any EV capable of accepting a fast charge, including Tesla models, most EV drivers can complete an 80% charge with an EVgo fast charger in the time it takes to grab lunch.

Operating more than 1000 fast chargers at more than 700 stations in 66 metropolitan markets spanning 34 U.S. states, EVgo provides its 75,000 customers more than 100,000 charges every month. As of August 2018, the company had already surpassed its 2017 record numbers, having charged the equivalent of 42 million miles of emissions-free driving in less than eight months.
