EVgo is always looking for ways to make the charging experience even better for our customers, and now we’ve powered up our foundational Autocharge technology to work across the EVgo network. The enhanced Autocharge+ allows EV drivers to start a charge by simply plugging in, no extra steps needed.  It makes charging faster and easier.  No tapping, no cards.  Just plug in and charge. Autocharge+ is available starting today.

When you plug a compatible CCS EV into one of EVgo’s many DC fast chargers (most CCS EVs are Autocharge+ compatible, read on for a complete list), you’ll be able to initiate a charge seamlessly.  Your EV will communicate to the charger, and once enrolled, your EV will be recognized by EVgo’s network and associated with your account and start dispensing electrons right away.

How Does Autocharge+ Work?

EVs with CCS connectors that are enrolled in Autocharge+ will be able to send a unique identifier (similar to your EVgo program card) so EVgo can automatically link your charging activity to your EVgo account.

This means that you can simply plug in to start your charging sessions. Your charging session will begin automatically, giving you more time to run errands, grab a bite or just relax in your car while you charge.

What vehicles can enroll in Autocharge+?

Autocharge+ is only available for EVs with CCS connectors that support a two-way vehicle data sharing functionality. The good news is that most EVs with CCS connectors support this feature (including older EV models). The following models are currently eligible:

  • Cadillac LYRIQ, Chevrolet Bolt EV and Bolt EUV, Energica Experia, Eva Ribelle, Ego, EsseEsse9, Ford Mach-E and F-150 Lightning, Genesis GV60, GV70 and G80 Electrified, GMC Hummer EV, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Ioniq 6 and Kona, Jaguar I-PACE, Kia Niro and EV6, Mercedes EQS, EQB and EQE, Polestar 2, Subaru Solterra, Toyota bZ4x, Nissan ARIYA, Volvo C40 and XC40 Recharge, and Tesla Model X, Y, S, S Plaid and 3 (with the Tesla CCS Combo 1 Adapter).

There are likely to be changes to this list in the future, but some EV manufacturers do not currently produce compatible models, which means they cannot enroll in Autocharge+.

How Do I Enroll?

First, you need to enroll in Autocharge+ through the EVgo app. (If you haven’t downloaded the new EVgo app or used the new “garage” feature to add your EV, what are you waiting for?!)  GM customers can enroll in GM’s Plug and Charge and EVgo Autocharge+ using the GM app for your specific model (e.g., myChevrolet, myCadillac, etc.).

To get the most out of the Autocharge+ experience, make sure app notifications are enabled.

To start your enrollment, log into your EVgo account in the app and use the navigation menu to select Vehicles. Then you’ll add your EV to your “garage” by typing or scanning your VIN in the app. If your EV model is Autocharge+ capable, you can then press “Request to Enroll,” which guides you through the rest of the process.

To finish enrolling, you will need to visit an EVgo charger, where you will then be asked to plug in. Once plugged in, your EV communicates its unique identifier to EVgo, which we then link to your EVgo account.  Now you’re officially set-up! That means every time you plug in on our network, your charging session will start automatically.

FAQs

Can I turn off Autocharge+ after I’ve enrolled?

Yes!  You can un-enroll from Autocharge+ (just like wiping your phone before selling it). Un-enrollment can be accessed through the Vehicle section of the EVgo app.

My EV uses a CHAdeMO connector to charge.  Can I enroll in Autocharge+?

Unfortunately, no. EV models that use CHAdeMO connectors do not have a unique identifier, and therefore cannot use Autocharge+.

Does it cost anything to enroll?

There are no additional fees to enroll. It’s included as a perk of charging with EVgo.

Does Autocharge+ work with EVgo’s roaming partner network?

No, Autocharge+ is a unique feature on all EVgo owned and operated charging stations.

If my car is set up with Autocharge+, will it work on L2 chargers?

Not at this time. The Autocharge+ feature is only available on EVgo DC fast charging equipment.

Can I enroll multiple EVs in Autocharge+?

Yes!

Can I enroll in Autocharge+ with a rental vehicle?

Yes!  However, don’t forget to unenroll when you return your vehicle!  If still enrolled, you are subject to all subsequent charges.

If my EV isn’t currently compatible with Autocharge+, will it be in the future?

We will continue to work with automakers so stay tuned for more additions – we'll update the list here in this blog.

Can I use Autocharge+ with an EVgo Tesla Connector?

Unfortunately, no. Because Tesla connectors are enabled through a different communications protocol, they are unable to use Autocharge+.

I’m concerned about security.  Will someone else be able to charge using my identifier?

EVgo has set up several processes to detect potential fraud.  If the time, location, and State of Charge (SoC) are impossible or improbable, the session will be stopped, and customers will receive a notification of potential fraud, requiring their confirmation to allow Autocharge+ (i.e., if your account is used to start a charge in California and then to start a charge in Ohio ten minutes later, this will be flagged as potential fraud). As long as you've signed up to receive messages from EVgo, you'll always receive a notification that an Autocharge+ session has started.  Please contact the EVgo Charging Crew right away if you suspect a session that isn't yours. You can call 877-494-3833 for 24/7 assistance.

Can I enroll in Autocharge+ from my computer or tablet?

No. Autocharge+ enrollment can only be done through the EVgo app. If you haven’t downloaded the app yet, visit www.EVgo.com/download-app/.

If you drive an EV made by GM, you can use the GM or EVgo app to enroll.

I drive an EV made by GM and want to enroll in Plug and Charge. Is that the same thing as Autocharge+?

While the names are a bit different, the process is exactly the same. GM customers can enroll in GM’s Plug and Charge and EVgo Autocharge+ using the GM app for your specific model (e.g., myChevrolet, myCadillac, etc.).
